With wild flowers abundant along the route, this is a great BOAT to drive in springtime (see pic, right).
Starting at it's eastern end, the lane runs down a very gentle slope as it follows a line of electricity pylons, passing through very pleasant woodland. Kitwood Plantation lies to the north and Dogford Wood to the south. The surface at this end is pretty solid and unrutted mud, however as you drive further west and pass under the pylons the surface slowly deteriorates into wide ruts. Whilst not a problem when we drove the lane in an exceptionally dry and sunny mid-April, they could be more of an issue in wet weather. Also, the eastern end is far wider with regards to foliage, as although it is by no means tight the western end of the lane has a few encroaching brambles and hazel bushes that will put a tidy line down the side of your vehicle.
After passing abeam Kitwood Farm the lane heads on almost due east past gorgeous rolling fields on it's southern side. The lane ends where it meets Lyeway Road, after running for precisely a mile and a whole 37m lower than at the eastern end!
