Subject to a TRO on Surrey County Council's website, this incredibly long lane is obstructed by locked gates and signs all along it's length, except at the southern end where it is a private drive. As such it cannot be driven, but it is certainly a nice walk or ride!
The lane follows the course of the Roman road Stane Street, which ran from London to Chichester. The air raid shelter can be found in undergrowth just to the west of the lane where it crosses Headly Road, and the tumulus can be found in the grounds of Cherkley Court, to west of the lane, near 'The Garden House'.
